LI: Using inference skills

I learned how to make inferences and to read information in the text, think about how we read and form an opinion. We did our Independent Task first. Then we read the text, and find synonyms for the highlighted words. Use the comment tool to show an easier way of saying that word, Use wordhippo.com. After that we did our task with Miss Tele’a. Using our inference skills to identify the culprit, location, and missing object in “The Mystery at Wharepuni Estate.” Lastly we did our Group Task, we picked one person from our group. My partner was Loa, because I think he would be a good partner.

Summarising Template

I have learned about the 3 steps we use for summarising.

First I made a copy of the google template. I opened up the story thirst and summarised it.

Next I picked 20 most important words, and then I picked 6 most important words.

Lastly I had to make a sentence with the 6 most important words.

I enjoyed picking 20 most important words. I did well on summarising the story. I need to improve on making a sentence with the 6 most important words.

Here is my work. Press on the link and it will show my work.

SSR Selfie

This week I learned about SSR Selfie.

First I had to pick a book to read for 15 minutes. I picked Smile because I think it’s a great story to read for 15 minutes.

Next I had to write down what happened in the story. For example: Raina just wanted to be a normal six grader. But one night after Girl scouts she trips and falls, severely injuring her two front teeth. What follows is a long and frustrating journey with on-again, off-again braces.

Lastly I had to write down who the main characters were. The main characters was Raina, Mum and Dad. Then we had to find new words with their meaning.

Te Tiriti Comp

Lastly we had to fill the slide with the answers.

Here is my work.

Te Tiriti

In Miss Tele’as reading group we learned to find the main idea of a passage.

First we made a DLO Template of the Te Tiriti o Waitaingi.

Next I will explain what the Te Tiriti o Waitaingi. It is between the british people and The Maori people. The British people wanted their land and the British people wanted to share the land.

Lastly we had to make groups of three Amorangi, Tiare and I was in a group. We were given a random page we got page five. We had to summarise the main ideas in our section of the page. We had to write what the author wants to understand.  Here is what we came up with.

Lastly we made created our own literal questions.

I enjoyed making our own literal questions. I did well on filling in the literal questions. I need to improve on doing the example better.

This week I learned about inferring

First Miss White was reading a book and showed us what to do. She wrote down I can see So I can infer on a piece of paper. For example: Miss White has written down a sentence that was part of the book and explanied what it is or what they are doing.

Next I went on a document that is called I can see… So I can infer… I had to read a book and write down a sentence that is part or simaliar to the text in the book.

Lastly I read a book called The Smile. I had to write down what I can see… So I can infer. For example: Can you tell me where your shelve is… translated japanese graphic novels. So I can Infer that she is at the library or in a book store.
