Legs Tally Kick Start

For this Summer Learning Journey. We first had to make a copy of the Google Draw which is called “Legs Tally Kick Start”, we then found out more about centipedes and one fact I learnt about centipedes was they have an odd number of legs. This activity was connected to maths which gained us more knowledge.

I found this activity delightful because it tested my knowledge in math and levelled up my brain.

Art in the Web – Kick Start

For this Summer learning Journey, I designed my own spider web using paper and a pencil. One fact I learnt about spiders is that their silk is five times stronger than steel for its thickness. I wanted to draw differently from the others and decided to draw plenty of spider webs instead of drawing a spider web that will cover the whole entire page!

You can see what I drew by looking at the picture from above! You can also find some photos on google to help you draw a spider web or go onto the SLJ site and go on the tutorials!

I really enjoyed this activity because it created creativity in my mind and made me think what to do to make it differently then the others.

Animals with Superpowers – Step it Up

For this Summer Learning Journey, I designed a critter or creature with superpowers. I had to think about what special ‘powers’ I want it to have based on real animal adaptations that I’ve learned about. Create its features, like it’s eyes, ears and teeth. And then put them together to make a creature that embodies superpowers. You can use your favourite app or free-hand draw a picture using paper, pen or pencil.

Firstly, I thought about a superpower which is flying kind of like superman how he can fly. I also thought about controlling the 4 elements which is Air, Earth, Fire and Water but I stuck with flying because it will fit with my animal. The animal I picked is a giraffe because of how tall it is and how it would fit in with flying.

If you look at the picture that I drew with flying abilitys. This photo is inspired by Harold the giraffe but adding a little touches to it.

I really recommend this activity if you like being creative, tracing or drawing. I loved this because it got me really entertained and focused on this.

Comic Style (Panther Chameleon) – Kick Start

For this SLJ (Summer Learning Journey) we had to find a creature who had a super power, For example: A chameleon has a very special power. Which is camouflaging, they can camouflage in their surroundings when sleeping or when they occur dangerous situations making the preys confused of where they have gone. This can be very useful for animals because of murderous preys. The animal I picked was Panther Chameleon due to their helpful super power. Did you know, a adult Panther Chameleon eats live insects, crickets, roaches and silkworms but if it’s a baby chameleon they would eat bean beetles, fruit flies and pinhead crickets due to their small mouth.

I really enjoyed this activity because it helped me understand why some animals have superpowers. This really intrigued me because it shows my understanding for this activity, and I can use it for future ideas.

SLJ: Chippy Challenge – Kick start

For this activity, Folose, Mareta and I created a poster to design a fish & chip menu. We chose to add Smoked Salmon & Fresh Green Salad, Fried Tuna with Mashed Potatoes, Grilled Fish with Chips, Small Cod & Fresh Lettuce Salad and BBQ Snapper with Diced Kumara. For desserts we decided to choose Ice Cream, Pie Slice (Apple, Chocolate and Blueberry), Caramel Brownie, Cake (Chocolate, Strawberry, Lemon, Rasberry, Blueberry and Vanilla) and we decided to add Pavlova because it is sweet. For Sauces we picked Tomato Sauce, Ranch, Garlic Aioli, Sweet Chilli and Lemon Butter. We added a high-quality photo to represent our poster we made.

I enjoyed this activity because there was so many options to choose for our menu.

SLJ: ‘Wanted’ Feared Fish – Step it Up

For this Summer Learning Journey activity, we had to make a warning poster with one of the sea creatures from the learn section. We had to include a picture of the creature we chose, why its dangerous, and some “warning” or “safety tips” to help people avoid it.

I chose to do the Great White Shark. The great white shark’s scientific name is Carcharodon carcharias. Both the genus and species name are derived from the Greek ‘karcharos’ which means sharp or jagged. White sharks have a total of around 50 ‘active’ teeth. They also have up to five or six additional rows of teeth growing behind those, ready to take the place of any tooth that is damaged or breaks off.

I enjoyed this activity because I learnt so much about the Great White Shark.

SLJ: Cartoon Collectables – Step it up

For this Summer Learning activity, we had to create a digital collectables card based on a sea creature using Google Drawings.

My character is called Demo and is an fish. I decided to make my fish swimming and relaxing in the ocean because it is now summer and the beaches are open for swimming when there are large waves. I chose to do a fish because it is a character from Nemo and their coloring is a warning to predators that they are poisonous but instead of doing Nemo and Dory, I decided to combine Dory and the colour of Nemo together.

SLJ: ‘Wanted’ Feared Fish – Kick Start

For this Summer Learning Journey activity, we created a warning poster about the Stonefish. We made sure to learn 3 facts about the Stonefish to add onto our blog.

The stonefish is known for being the most venomous fish in the world. The venom in the stonefish is a protein stored in the dorsal (a dorsal is like the upper side or the back of an animal) fine spine. Stonefishes are found in many different countries like Turkey, Mozambique, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Japan, Australia, Cookisland and other Pacific Islands. Stonefishes are lethal, they have enough toxin to kill an adult in under an hour.

3 facts I learnt about Stonefishes:

  1. Stonefishes are really good at disguising themselves in the ocean.
  2. They are the most venomous fish in the world.
  3. They can survive up to 24 hours out of the water.
