Summer Learning Journey

Today’s task was to make a list of 20 other things that are yellow like Kowhai’s. This activity is Nineteen, I chose this task because I really think this will be easy and also a little bit hard.

First I made a Google Drawing. Then I gave it a background colour, The colour was Light Yellow, Light Blue, and Light Green because it matches with spring.

Next I filled in the text box with some Flowers and some Animals that are Yellow.

Lastly I blogged.

Think SMART

Cybersmart this week we have been learning about how to think smart. I learned about how to THINK SMART when someone is mean to us online.

First make a copy of the slide and work through them.

Next I was done with my slides. Then I had to create an infographic that will show people what to do when someone is mean online.

Lastly I was done doing my DLO and I’m going to be careful online and remember to be smart and stay safe online.

Co-ordinates

Today we learnt how to do Coordinates. Coordinates are a pair of numbers which are used to determine the position of a point or a shape in a 2-dimensional plane. We define the position of a point on a 2D plane using two numbers, called the x-coordinate and the y-coordinate.

First we have to make a copy of the slides. Rafyel and I were working together. We had to find the location using the map of the Auckland Zoo, we had to find the following places and write their coordinates.

Next when we finished the google slides we had to make a copy of the google doc. We first read the instructions to see what we had to do. The instructions are Using the boxes below, a map similar to the Auckland Zoo. Then fill in the X (letters) and Y axis (number). Fill in your objects in the section below and find the coordinates for these objects. Rafyel did the Google doc and I had to fill it in.

Lastly we had to check our work and blog about what we did when we finished the google slide and google doc.

I enjoyed filling in the coordinates. I did well on working and talking about the work and what we had to do. I need to improve on not talking with other people.

Emotions, Anger

This week we did an anger poster for PB4L.

First we had to answer some questions on a piece of paper and the questions were what does anger look like, how can we stop anger, and is it ok to be angry.

Next we had to sit in a circle with the rest of our class and Miss White would say someone’s name and then we would say one of the questions and then we had to answer and say what we wrote on that question.

Lastly we had to do a google drawing and we had to do a question which was what does anger look like, and how to calm yourself down. Then we had to put down a question and then we had to make a list of what it is or what it does.

I enjoyed doing this task because learning about emotions is fun. I did well at finishing this task. I need to improve on answering the question on a piece of paper.

Food Safety Article

Today we learned about the Food Safety Article and to understand how we can ensure ingredients and food are safe to eat.

First we had to make a copy of the Food Safety Article. Select 3 topics to write about and delete the topics you are not writing my one was Dry Goods, Fresh Fruits and Vegetables and Canned and Packaged Foods.

Next I read the instructions: In this column, copy and paste information you find online. Delete any information that is not relevant.  Highlight parts you think are especially important. Add rows if you need more space. Write the website you find your information on and link it. Categorize your information. Use these links to find information Kiddle, Google, NY Times, Twinkl article, Food Safety UK and Food Safety for kids.

Lastly I will tell you what I wrote for state the importance of proper food storage and its impact on food safety. Food poisoning is frequently caused by bacteria from foods that have been incorrectly stored, prepared, handled or cooked. Food contaminated with food poisoning bacteria may look, smell and taste normal. If food is not stored properly, the bacteria in it can multiply to dangerous levels. And it can cause you to get very sick or even other bacteria. Bateria is dangerous because you can catch Covid, Headaches, Mononucleosis, Stomach Ache, Colds and Flu, Allergies and Conjunctivitis (Pink Eye).

I enjoyed finding information. I did well on selecting 3 topics. I need to improve on telling you more about the state the importance of proper food storage and its impact on food safety.

Ki O Rahi

This week for HPE we learned how to play Ki o Rahi.

Rules for Ki O Rahi: Ki O Rahi are 5 minute quarters with an immediate change at quarter time and a 2 minute break at half time. The sport is non-contact but players wear a belt holding two velcro tags around their waist. Shirts must be tucked in at all times. No watches or other jewellery are allowed to be worn during play.

First, Coach Lucas teaches us what Ki o Rahi is. Ki o Rahi is a Maori game. if you have the ball you have to run and touch the long yellow stick. When you touch it all you have to try and score by touching the middle with the ball. If you are near the bin (tupu) you have to try and block the ball from touching it so the other team doesn’t get a score. You first have to wear a belt and 2 ripper tags on the side of your hips. if your teammate passes the ball to you, you have to catch it and throw it at the tupu to get a point.

Next, Lucas told us what equipment we need. We need 1 tupu (central target), approx 40 gallon drum or rubbish bin, 7 pou, Ki woven flax ball, normal ball, and field marking.

Afterwards, Lucas picked people to be in the red team and yellow team. I was on the red team. For example: he picked a boy to be in the red team and the other team yellow.

Lastly, we had one more round to see who won the game. The team who won was the red team.

Ordering Fractions

For math we learned about ordering fractions. Ordering fractions is when mixed fractions are outside the box and you have to order them like smallest to biggest and it is kind of hard. I was with my partner Hasna who was helping me do this but there was a problem. I don’t know how to write it because my keys on my chrome does not know how to write fractions so I used slash and I finished it.

Food Safety Guide

For Inquiry we learned about Food Safety. Food Safety is important because you don’t have to worry about being sick.

First we had a choice if we wanted a partner. My partner was Valencia and I. We had to make a copy of the Food Safety Guide.

Next I had to go to Food Safety Guide slides and do Glossary – Define these words and terms: and I had to pick 4 stuff to do the definition and I picked: Foodborne illness, Bacteria, Pesticide residue, Undercooking Overcooking Cross Contamination. This is the four tricks not to get sick: Clean your food so you don’t get germs, Separate the raw food away from the fresh food, Cook the food because if you eat raw food you might get sick and don’t over cook it and Cold Temperatures keep most harmful bacteria from multiplying.

Lastly I had to show Miss Tele’a or Miss White so I can blog about it.

I enjoyed doing the Tricks to Not Get Sick. I did well at my DLO. I need to improve on my Food Safety Guide.

Tohunga Mind Map

What we are learning this week is to consider the perspective of a character in a text and to make inferences.

First I had to read Epic or Read Theory, Epic is Epic is the leading digital reading platform for kids 12 and under, and Read Theory is a powerful educational tool that offers online reading activities for all ages and ability levels.

Next I had to read the book. The book is called Tohunga this book is about the time when a mother had to take her sick child in secret to a tohunga.

Lastly we had to make a copy of the mind map. First you have to pick a picture and a person in the story my person was Mā.

Writing

I learned how to write a procedural text and highlight its different features.

First we had to make a flowchart that shows the steps from a procedural text.

Next we had to create a new Google Doc and write your own procedure. Choose something you know to do very well. Your procedural text should have: Title, Introduction, Materials, Steps and Conclusion. Once you finish your procedural text. Highlight the features you have included.

Lastly create a flowchart in Google Draw that matches your procedure.

Here is my work.
